Plum ‘Resi®’
Plum ‘Resi®’: standard plum, resistant to Sharka, attractive, high yielding

The ‘Hauszwetschge’ is one of the oldest and best-known plum varieties. Unfortunately, it takes a long time for trees of this variety to bear fruit and it is very susceptible to the Sharka disease. In recent years, it has often failed to achieve its almost legendary fruit quality, as it is sensitive to heat damage. The flesh then becomes glassy and brownish around the stone cavity, making the fruit inedible. To prevent this damage, the fruit is often harvested prematurely, which is even more detrimental to the quality of the fruit.
It is therefore high time to find an alternative in the ripening area of ‘Hauszwetschge’ . ’Resi® is now available! The new variety is hypersensitive to the Scharka virus and is therefore not affected in the field. This makes it predestined for planting even in areas affected by Sharka.

Outer fruit quality

‘Resi®’ fruits are consistently medium-sized (38-48 g, 36-40 mm) and elongated-oval. The basic colour is dark purple with hardly any russeting, which makes the fruits particularly attractive. The fruit stalk is very long. This makes harvesting easier and favours the drying of the fruit after rain showers, so that susceptibility to monilia is relatively low. In addition, the fruits hardly burst.

The picking efficiency is very high. If not picked too early, the tree can usually be harvested in one picking session.

The fruit hanging on older fruit wood inside the tree is also large and tastes very good.

Inner fruit quality

With a low acid content (3-6 g/l), ’Resi®’ fruits have approx. 20 Brix and taste sweet. The yellowish flesh is very fine-cellular, of medium firmness (similar to ‘Hauszwetschge’) and stable to heat.

The stone separates very well from the flesh, the stone cavity is relatively small. The fruit has excellent baking qualities. There is virtually no stone breakage and no pectin inclusions around the stone.

Tree characteristics

The yield of the variety is high and very regular. It is self-fertile, but it is recommended to interplant trees of a pollinator variety in larger plantations. Suitable varieties include ‘Franzi®’, ‘Cacaks Schöne’, ‘Moni®’ or ‘Haroma’. This variety flowers medium-early. The flowers are quite frost-resistant. They appear on long shoots as well as short shoots, which is why the yield starts very early.

The tree grows medium vigorously and branches willingly. The main shoots grow relatively flat from the trunk extension, which is why the crown is open and expansive.
